Description
Overview of the medicine
Tearin is an ocular lubricant used to relieve dryness, burning, and irritation of the eyes. It works by moistening the eye surface, mimicking natural tears.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed, 3-4 times daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is typically required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary as systemic absorption is negligible.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch, and instill the prescribed number of drops into the conjunctival sac. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium acts as an ocular lubricant by increasing the viscosity of the tear film, thereby prolonging the contact time of the solution with the ocular surface and providing lubrication and hydration.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Immediate relief upon application.
Excretion
Primarily washed away by tear flow; no significant systemic excretion pathway.
Half life
Not applicable for topical, non-systemically absorbed ocular lubricants.
Absorption
Minimal to no systemic absorption when applied topically to the eye.
Metabolism
Not applicable due to negligible systemic absorption.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium or any other component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Drugs
If using other eye drops, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications to avoid washing out the previous medication.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose with ophthalmic application is highly unlikely. If excess is applied, it can be gently wiped away or rinsed with water.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation due to minimal systemic absorption. Consult a healthcare professional before use.
