Description
Overview of the medicine
Tenaxit 0.5 mg Tablet is a beta-adrenergic blocker primarily used to treat essential hypertension, angina pectoris, and certain anxiety disorders. It works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body, like epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 0.5 mg once daily, adjusted based on response up to a maximum of 2 mg daily.
Elderly
Lower initial dose (e.g., 0.25 mg) and gradual titration recommended due to increased sensitivity and potential for renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment; use with caution.
How to Take
Take orally, with or without food, at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Tenaxol hydrochloride selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors, reducing heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output. It also inhibits the release of renin, leading to a decrease in angiotensin II and aldosterone, further contributing to its antihypertensive effect.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1-2 hours
Excretion
Mainly renal, with a small portion excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 3-4 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; bioavailability approximately 50-60%.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic, extensive first-pass metabolism.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include severe bradycardia, hypotension, heart failure, and bronchospasm. Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment, including atropine for bradycardia, vasopressors for hypotension, and bronchodilators for bronchospasm.
