Description
Overview of the medicine
Teslar 20 mg tablet is a novel analgesic and anti-inflammatory medication used for the symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 20 mg once or twice daily, or as directed by the physician. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 40 mg.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised due to potential age-related decrease in renal function. Start with the lowest effective dose.
Renal_impairment
For mild to moderate renal impairment, a dose reduction to 20 mg once daily may be considered. Not recommended in severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take the tablet orally, with or without food. To minimize gastrointestinal upset, it is generally recommended to take with food or milk.
Mechanism of Action
Teslar acts as a selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, primarily targeting COX-2. This inhibition reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are key mediators of pain and inflammation, thereby exerting its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Analgesic effect observed within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine (approximately 70%) and feces (approximately 30%) as metabolites.
Half life
Plasma elimination half-life is approximately 6-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, achieving peak plasma concentrations within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily via CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 enzymes.
