Tokn-1 mg Syrup is an oral medication containing Toxanamine Hydrochloride, primarily used for symptomatic relief of dry, unproductive coughs.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 ml (2 mg) every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 60 ml (12 mg) in 24 hours.
Elderly
Same as adults, but caution advised due to potential increased sensitivity. Start with the lowest effective dose.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment; consult a physician.
How to Take
For oral use only. Measure the dose accurately using the provided measuring cup or spoon. May be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Toxanamine Hydrochloride acts centrally by elevating the cough threshold in the medulla oblongata, thereby suppressing the cough reflex.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Toxanamine Hydrochloride or any component of the syrup.
- •Acute asthma or severe respiratory depression.
- •Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping MAO inhibitors.
Drug Interactions
MAO Inhibitors
Concurrent use may lead to a hypertensive crisis.
CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives)
May enhance CNS depressant effects, leading to increased drowsiness and respiratory depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include severe drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, respiratory depression. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered if taken recently.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Consult a physician. Excreted in breast milk, so caution advised for breastfeeding mothers.
