Description
Overview of the medicine
UltranaX 500 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual adult dose is 500 mg once or twice daily, or as directed by the physician. Doses should not exceed 1000 mg per day.
Elderly
A lower initial dose is recommended for elderly patients, with close monitoring of renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction is necessary in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment. Regular monitoring of renal function is advised.
How to Take
For oral administration. To minimize gastrointestinal discomfort, it is best taken with food, milk, or antacids.
Mechanism of Action
Naxoprofen works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. This reduction in prostaglandin synthesis leads to its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Analgesic effect typically begins within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in the urine (approximately 95%) as metabolites and conjugates, with a small amount excreted in feces.
Half life
Plasma elimination half-life ranges from 10 to 15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations achieved within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and other CYP enzyme pathways.
