Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
12 mg once daily, or as directed by physician. Maximum daily dose is 12 mg.
Elderly
Initiate with lowest effective dose, monitor renal function. Generally, 12 mg once daily is acceptable.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage reduction may be necessary for severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Univer-12-mg-tablet selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme, which is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation. This inhibition leads to reduced pain and inflammation.

Contraindications

- History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
- Severe hepatic or renal impairment
- Third trimester of pregnancy
Drug Interactions
Lithium
Increased plasma lithium levels.
Diuretics and ACE inhibitors
Reduced antihypertensive effect and increased risk of renal impairment.
Warfarin and other anticoagulants
Increased risk of bleeding.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain. Management includes symptomatic and supportive care. Gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered within the first hour of ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid during the third trimester of pregnancy due to risk of premature closure of the ductus arteriosus. Use with caution during first and second trimesters only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk.
