Description
Overview of the medicine
Uptech-Go Adult Inhaler contains Salbutamol, a fast-acting bronchodilator used to relieve symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For relief of bronchospasm: 1 or 2 inhalations (100-200 mcg) as needed, up to 4 times a day. For prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm: 2 inhalations (200 mcg) 10-15 minutes before exercise.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease or other comorbidities.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in severe impairment.
How to Take
For oral inhalation only. Shake the inhaler well before each use. Exhale fully, then place the mouthpiece in your mouth and inhale slowly and deeply while pressing down on the canister. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then exhale slowly. If more than one puff is prescribed, wait for 30-60 seconds before taking the next puff.
Mechanism of Action
Salbutamol selectively stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors primarily located in the bronchial smooth muscles, leading to relaxation of these muscles and bronchodilation. This helps to open the airways and improve breathing.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 5-15 minutes after inhalation.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in the urine, both as unchanged drug and as the sulfate conjugate.
Half life
Approximately 4-6 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral inhalation. Systemic absorption is low, with a significant portion being swallowed and then absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to an inactive sulfate conjugate.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Salbutamol or any component of the formulation.
- Severe milk protein allergy (for some DPI formulations).
Drug Interactions
Beta-blockers
May block the bronchodilatory effect of Salbutamol and cause severe bronchospasm.
Diuretics (e.g., loop or thiazide diuretics)
May potentiate hypokalemia.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) & Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs)
May potentiate the cardiovascular effects of Salbutamol.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight, heat, and frost. Do not puncture or incinerate the canister, even when empty. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include tachycardia, tremors, palpitations, headache, dizziness, and hypokalemia. Management involves supportive and symptomatic treatment. Cardiac monitoring may be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Salbutamol is excreted in human milk; use with caution in breastfeeding mothers.

YesClinical Trials
Salbutamol has been extensively studied in numerous clinical trials demonstrating its efficacy and safety in the management of asthma and COPD across various age groups. Ongoing research focuses on optimizing delivery systems and combination therapies.
Lab Monitoring
- Serum potassium levels should be monitored in patients at risk of hypokalemia (e.g., those on diuretics, corticosteroids, or severe asthmatics).
Doctor Notes
- Emphasize proper inhaler technique and the importance of rinsing the mouth.
- Educate patients on the difference between rescue inhalers (like Salbutamol) and maintenance inhalers (e.g., corticosteroids) and when to use each.
- Monitor for overuse, which may indicate poorly controlled asthma/COPD requiring adjustment of maintenance therapy.
- Advise patients to carry their rescue inhaler at all times.
Patient Guidelines
- Ensure correct inhaler technique to maximize drug delivery to the lungs.
- Rinse your mouth with water after each use to minimize the risk of oral thrush and local side effects.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose or frequency of use.
- Seek medical attention if your symptoms worsen or you need to use the inhaler more frequently than usual.
Missed Dose Advice
Uptech-Go is typically used on an as-needed basis. If you miss a scheduled dose (if applicable), take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Driving Precautions
Salbutamol may cause dizziness or tremor in some individuals. Patients should be advised to exercise caution when driving or operating machinery until they know how the medicine affects them.
Lifestyle Advice
- Identify and avoid asthma/COPD triggers (e.g., allergens, smoke, pollution).
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet.
- Consider a flu shot and pneumonia vaccine as recommended.
