Description
Overview of the medicine
V-care 12% w/v Topical Solution is a medicine used to treat androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness and female pattern hair loss). It contains Minoxidil, which helps stimulate hair growth when applied directly to the scalp.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply 1 mL of V-care 12% solution to the affected areas of the scalp twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Ensure the scalp is dry before application. Do not exceed 2 mL per day.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients, but caution is advised due to potential for increased sensitivity.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment for topical use is necessary as systemic absorption is minimal. However, caution is advised in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Apply the solution directly to the dry scalp in the hair loss area using the supplied dropper or pump spray. Gently massage the solution into the scalp. Wash hands thoroughly immediately after application. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and other sensitive areas. Do not use on other body parts.
Mechanism of Action
Minoxidil is a peripheral vasodilator that, when applied topically, is believed to stimulate hair growth. Its exact mechanism in hair growth is not fully understood, but it is thought to widen blood vessels, increasing blood flow to hair follicles, and to prolong the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicles.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Hair regrowth typically requires 2-4 months of consistent twice-daily application. Maximum benefit may be seen after 12 months.
Excretion
Excreted primarily by the kidneys, mostly as metabolites and to a lesser extent as unchanged drug.
Half life
The systemic elimination half-life is approximately 4.2 hours after topical application.
Absorption
Limited systemic absorption (approximately 1-2% of the topically applied dose) occurs through intact skin. Absorption may increase with damaged skin or occlusive dressings.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic, with conjugation to minoxidil glucuronide. Minoxidil is metabolised by the enzyme sulfotransferase.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Minoxidil or any other components of the solution.
- •Patients with a history of heart disease, including angina, heart attack, stroke, or uncontrolled hypertension.
- •Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- •Individuals under 18 years of age.
- •Presence of acute scalp dermatoses, sunburn, or other scalp injuries.
Drug Interactions
Guanethidine
Concomitant use with Minoxidil may increase the risk of orthostatic hypotension.
Topical corticosteroids/retinoids/petrolatum
May enhance the absorption of topical Minoxidil, potentially increasing systemic effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Accidental ingestion or excessive topical application may lead to systemic effects of Minoxidil, including tachycardia, hypotension, fluid retention, and dizziness. In such cases, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Limited systemic absorption can occur, and potential risks to the fetus or infant are not fully established. Consult a doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
