Overview of the medicine
Varivax is a vaccine used to prevent chickenpox (varicella) caused by the varicella zoster virus. It contains a live, attenuated form of the virus.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
0.5 mL subcutaneously as a 2-dose series, 4-8 weeks apart.
Elderly
Same as adults.

How to Take
Reconstitute lyophilized powder with provided diluent. Administer subcutaneously, preferably in the outer aspect of the upper arm. Do not inject intravenously or intramuscularly.
Mechanism of Action
Induces active immunity against varicella zoster virus by stimulating the production of antibodies and cell-mediated immune responses.
