Description
Overview of the medicine
Vasoproct 500 mg Capsule is a venotonic and vasoprotective medication used to treat symptoms associated with venous insufficiency and acute hemorrhoidal attacks.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For chronic venous insufficiency: 1 capsule (500 mg) daily. For acute hemorrhoidal attacks: 3 capsules (1500 mg) twice daily for 4 days, then 2 capsules (1000 mg) twice daily for 3 days.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required, but caution is advised in elderly patients with comorbidities.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution in severe renal impairment. No specific guidelines, but consider dose reduction if adverse effects occur.
How to Take
Swallow the capsule whole with water, preferably with meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
Mechanism of Action
Vasoproct acts by increasing venous tone and decreasing capillary permeability, leading to improved venous return and reduced inflammation. It enhances lymphatic drainage and reduces leukocyte adhesion to the endothelium, thereby alleviating symptoms of venous disease.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptomatic relief usually observed within hours to days for acute conditions.
Excretion
Primarily via urine (approx. 80%) and feces (approx. 20%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 11-14 hours (for active metabolites).
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Extensively metabolized to phenolic acids.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the intestine by intestinal flora and then in the liver to phenolic acids, which are then conjugated.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Diosmin or any component of the formulation.
- Lactation (for high doses in acute conditions due to insufficient data).
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
While not definitively proven, some studies suggest a potential for Diosmin to slightly enhance the effect of anticoagulants. Monitor INR if co-administered.
No other significant drug interactions are generally reported.
No other significant drug interactions are generally reported.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose are generally mild and may include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, diarrhea) or headache. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage may be considered in recent, large overdoses.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Limited human data suggest no adverse effects. Use only if clearly needed after consulting a physician. Lactation: Avoid use during breastfeeding, especially for acute conditions with high doses, as data on excretion into breast milk is insufficient.
