Description
Overview of the medicine
Venopex 100 mg Injection contains Venofibrin, a synthetic venotonic agent used to improve venous tone, reduce capillary permeability, and improve lymphatic drainage. It is primarily indicated for conditions related to venous insufficiency.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Chronic Venous Insufficiency: 100 mg once daily by slow intravenous injection or infusion. For Acute Hemorrhoidal Crises: 100 mg two to three times daily for a short period (e.g., 3-5 days), then reduce to once daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in elderly patients with significant comorbidities.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment for mild to moderate renal impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment, monitor for adverse effects.
How to Take
Venopex 100 mg Injection should be administered by slow intravenous injection over 2-3 minutes or diluted in an appropriate intravenous solution (e.g., normal saline or 5% dextrose) and administered as an infusion. Do not administer intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Ensure proper aseptic technique.
Mechanism of Action
Venofibrin acts by increasing venous tone, leading to improved venous return and reduced venous stasis. It also reduces capillary permeability and fragility, thereby decreasing edema. Additionally, it enhances lymphatic drainage, contributing to its overall vasoprotective effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within minutes after intravenous administration.
Excretion
Mainly through renal excretion (urine), with a minor portion excreted via bile.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapid and complete absorption after intravenous administration.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism into inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Venofibrin or any component of the injection.
- Severe arterial insufficiency.
Drug Interactions
Corticosteroids
May enhance the vasoprotective effects; no significant adverse interactions reported.
Anticoagulants/Antiplatelets
Caution is advised when co-administered with anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents due to a theoretical risk of increased bleeding, though clinical significance is generally low.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. There is no specific antidote for Venofibrin. Monitor vital signs and manage any adverse reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown if Venofibrin is excreted in human milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother. Consult a physician.
