Description
Overview of the medicine
Betahistine is used to treat symptoms of Meniere's disease, such as vertigo (dizziness), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and hearing loss.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 8-16 mg three times daily, or 24 mg twice daily, adjusted based on response. Maintenance dose usually 24-48 mg daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustments are required, but caution is advised in elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage adjustments may be considered based on clinical judgment.
How to Take
Tablets should be taken orally, preferably with or after meals to avoid gastrointestinal upset.
Mechanism of Action
It acts as a weak H1 receptor agonist and a potent H3 receptor antagonist in the inner ear. It increases blood flow to the inner ear, helping to reduce endolymphatic pressure.
