Versil 4 mg Tablet contains Cyproheptadine HCl, a first-generation antihistamine. It is primarily used to relieve symptoms of allergic conditions such as hay fever, conjunctivitis, skin rashes, and mild allergic reactions. It is also known for its appetite-stimulating effect.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults: 4 mg three times daily; maximum 32 mg/day. For appetite stimulation, typically 4 mg at bedtime, increasing to 4 mg three times daily with meals.
Elderly
Elderly: Use with caution, starting with lower doses (e.g., 4 mg twice daily) due to increased susceptibility to side effects, especially anticholinergic effects.
Renal_impairment
Renal impairment: Use with caution; dosage reduction may be necessary due to accumulation of metabolites.
How to Take
Oral. Can be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Cyproheptadine works by blocking the action of histamine at H1-receptors, thereby reducing allergic symptoms like itching, sneezing, and watery eyes. It also has antiserotonergic and anticholinergic properties, contributing to its other effects including appetite stimulation.

Contraindications

Drug Interactions

Prolongs and intensifies anticholinergic effects.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms: Severe drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, weakness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, large pupils, dry mouth, flushing, fever, shakiness, trouble sleeping, hallucinations, convulsions. Management: Gastric lavage, activated charcoal, symptomatic and supportive treatment. Physostigmine may be used for severe anticholinergic symptoms under strict medical supervision.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Not recommended during lactation as it may be excreted in breast milk and can cause sedation in the infant or reduce milk supply.
