Oral. Can be taken with or without food.

Cyproheptadine works by blocking the action of histamine at H1-receptors, thereby reducing allergic symptoms like itching, sneezing, and watery eyes. It also has antiserotonergic and anticholinergic properties, contributing to its other effects including appetite stimulation.

• •Hypersensitivity to Cyproheptadine or any component of the formulation
• •Newborn or premature infants
• •Breastfeeding mothers
• •Angle-closure glaucoma
• •Urinary retention (e.g., due to prostatic hypertrophy)
• •Stenosing peptic ulcer
• •Symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy
• •Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors

Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Symptoms: Severe drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, weakness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, large pupils, dry mouth, flushing, fever, shakiness, trouble sleeping, hallucinations, convulsions. Management: Gastric lavage, activated charcoal, symptomatic and supportive treatment. Physostigmine may be used for severe anticholinergic symptoms under strict medical supervision.

Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Not recommended during lactation as it may be excreted in breast milk and can cause sedation in the infant or reduce milk supply.
