Overview of the medicine
Solifenacin is used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB), such as urinary urgency, frequency, and incontinence.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 5 mg once daily; may be increased to 10 mg once daily based on response and tolerability.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally needed, but use with caution.
Renal_impairment
Mild to moderate: No adjustment. Severe (CrCl < 30 mL/min): Max 5 mg daily.
How to Take
Orally, with water, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Solifenacin is a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist. It specifically binds to M3 muscarinic receptors in the bladder, inhibiting bladder contraction and thus reducing urgency, frequency, and incontinence associated with OAB.

Onset
1-2 hours, full effect within 1 week.
Excretion
Primarily in urine (approx 70%) and feces (approx 23%).
Half life
Approximately 45-68 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed, peak plasma concentration reached in 3-8 hours. Bioavailability approx 90%.
Metabolism
Primarily in the liver by CYP3A4.

- Urinary retention, gastric retention, uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.
