Description
Overview of the medicine
Vitix Gel is a non-greasy, opaque gel containing microspheres of Extramel®, a patented plant extract rich in superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. It is designed to help regulate pigment production and promote re-pigmentation in individuals with vitiligo.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply twice daily to the affected areas, gently massaging until the gel is completely absorbed. Can be used in conjunction with phototherapy.
Elderly
Same as adults.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required as it is a topical product with minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer of gel to the affected areas of the skin, including the edges of the lesions, and gently massage it in until it is completely absorbed. Wash hands after application. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
Vitix Gel works by helping to restore the physiological balance of free radicals in melanocytes (pigment-producing cells). The active ingredients, especially Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and catalase, neutralize excess free radicals (oxidative stress) which are thought to be responsible for melanocyte destruction in vitiligo. By reducing oxidative stress, it creates a more favorable environment for melanocyte survival and proliferation, thereby promoting re-pigmentation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Effects are gradual, typically observed after 2-4 months of consistent use.
Excretion
Not relevant for topical application with minimal systemic absorption.
Half life
Not applicable for topical, localized action.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption expected with topical application. Primarily acts locally on the skin.
Metabolism
Local enzymatic activity on the skin; not subject to significant systemic metabolism.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any component of the gel.
Drug Interactions
General
No known systemic drug interactions due to minimal systemic absorption. For topical use, avoid applying other products simultaneously on the same area unless advised by a healthcare professional, to prevent potential alteration of absorption or efficacy.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely to cause systemic effects. If excessive amounts are applied, simply wipe off the excess. Accidental oral ingestion may lead to mild gastrointestinal upset; in such cases, seek medical advice.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe due to minimal systemic absorption. However, as with any medication or cosmetic product, pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before use.
