Description
Overview of the medicine
Voriderm cream contains Prednicarbate, a synthetic non-halogenated corticosteroid. It is used for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Prednicarbate has anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin area once or twice daily. Gently rub in.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required; use with caution for prolonged periods.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment required.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply thinly to the affected skin area and gently rub in. Do not apply to open wounds or mucous membranes. Wash hands after application.
Mechanism of Action
Prednicarbate acts by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, lipocortins. These proteins control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor, arachidonic acid.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid local effect (within hours to days).
Excretion
Excreted mainly in the urine, partly as metabolites.
Half life
Not well defined for topical application; local effect persists for several hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption increases with inflammation or occlusion.
Metabolism
Metabolized primarily in the skin and to a lesser extent in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to prednicarbate or any component of the formulation
- •Fungal, viral (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella), or bacterial skin infections
- •Perioral dermatitis
- •Rosacea
- •Acne vulgaris
- •Children under 2 years of age
Drug Interactions
Immunosuppressants
Systemic absorption, though minimal, might add to immunosuppressive effects if used extensively.
Other topical corticosteroids
Avoid concomitant use at the same site to prevent additive systemic absorption and local side effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely to produce acute systemic effects. However, prolonged or excessive use of topical corticosteroids can lead to systemic effects such as Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus or infant, and under strict medical supervision. Avoid large areas or prolonged use.
