Description
Overview of the medicine
Votab 200 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) containing Diclofenac Sodium, used for the relief of pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by various conditions like arthritis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
100-200 mg once daily (Sustained Release), preferably with food.
Elderly
Lower effective dose should be considered; monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary in severe impairment. Not recommended in severe renal failure.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably with or immediately after food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Diclofenac inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing inflammation, pain, and fever.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
1-2 hours for sustained release formulation.
Excretion
Renal (approx. 60%) and biliary (approx. 30-40%).
Half life
Approximately 1-2 hours (plasma elimination half-life), but therapeutic effect is longer due to sustained release.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally; sustained release formulation provides prolonged absorption.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic, via CYP2C9 and glucuronidation.
