Description
Overview of the medicine
Waxsol 0.5% Ear Drop is used to soften and remove hardened earwax (cerumen) in the ear canal.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 5 drops into the affected ear(s) twice daily for up to 3 days. Lie on your side for a few minutes after application to allow the drops to penetrate the earwax.
Elderly
Same as adults.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For external ear use only. Gently warm the bottle in your hand before use. Tilt your head to the side and instill the drops into the affected ear. Remain in this position for a few minutes to allow the drops to work. Do not insert any foreign objects into the ear canal.
Mechanism of Action
Docusate Sodium acts as a surfactant, which means it reduces the surface tension of the earwax. This allows water to penetrate and disperse the hardened wax, making it easier to remove.
Pharmacokinetics

Softening effect may begin within minutes, but full cerumenolysis typically occurs over 1-3 days of regular application.

Not significant systemically.
Half life
Not applicable due to local action and minimal systemic absorption.
