Xadu 50 mg Tablet is an antidepressant primarily used to treat major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. It works by affecting the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 50 mg once daily, preferably in the morning. May be increased gradually to a maximum of 200 mg daily based on clinical response.
Elderly
Starting dose 25 mg once daily, may be increased cautiously. Max 100 mg daily.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Xadu acts as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), increasing the extracellular level of the neurotransmitter serotonin by limiting its reabsorption into the presynaptic cell. This enhances serotonergic neurotransmission.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Xadu or any components of the formulation.
- Concomitant use with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOI treatment.
- Concomitant use with Pimozide.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Risk of serious, sometimes fatal, serotonin syndrome. Avoid concomitant use.
Warfarin
May increase bleeding risk; monitor INR.
CYP2D6 inhibitors
May increase Xadu levels.
Other serotonergic drugs (e.g., Triptans, Tramadol)
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, tremor, and dizziness. In severe cases, seizures, coma, and serotonin syndrome can occur. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic; maintain airway, monitor cardiac and vital signs. Activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is excreted in breast milk.
