Xelobine 500 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg orally once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection type and severity.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is usually required for elderly patients unless they have significant renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction is required for patients with creatinine clearance <50 mL/min. For CrCl 20-49 mL/min: 250 mg daily; for CrCl <20 mL/min: 250 mg every 48 hours.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Avoid taking antacids, sucralfate, iron supplements, or zinc supplements within 2 hours before or after Xelobine.
Mechanism of Action
Xelofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Xelofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones
- History of tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone use
- Patients with myasthenia gravis
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs
May increase the risk of CNS stimulation and convulsive seizures.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect, requiring INR monitoring.
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of tendon disorders.
Antacids (containing magnesium or aluminum), Sucralfate, Metal cations (iron, zinc)
Reduced oral absorption of Xelobine. Separate administration by at least 2 hours.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered. Hemodialysis is not effective in removing Xelofloxacin.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Xelofloxacin is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
