Xevlin 500 mg Tablet contains Xevofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 500 mg once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is usually required unless severe renal impairment is present.

Dose adjustment required based on creatinine clearance (e.g., 250 mg once daily for CrCl < 50 mL/min).
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Xevofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Contraindications

Drug Interactions
NSAIDs
May increase the risk of CNS stimulation and convulsions.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effects. Monitor INR closely.
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of tendon rupture.
Antacids (containing magnesium/aluminum)
Decreased absorption of Xevofloxacin. Take Xevlin at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after antacids.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, confusion, and convulsions. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as Xevofloxacin is excreted in breast milk.
