Overview of the medicine
Xiamin 750 mg Tablet contains Xiamoxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
750 mg once daily for 5-14 days, depending on the type and severity of infection.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required for elderly patients unless severe renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min, dose adjustment to 375 mg once daily is recommended.
How to Take
Orally, with or without food. Should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Xiamoxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Mainly renal excretion (approximately 60-70% unchanged drug in urine), with some fecal excretion.

Absorption
Rapidly and extensively absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism, with some active and inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Xiamoxacin or any other fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
- History of tendinitis or tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone use.
- Patients with myasthenia gravis.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect, leading to increased bleeding risk. INR monitoring is recommended.
Antacids, Iron, Zinc supplements
May reduce the absorption of Xiamoxacin. Take Xiamoxacin at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after these agents.
NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs)
Increased risk of CNS stimulation and convulsive seizures.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

In case of an overdose, symptomatic and supportive care should be initiated. Gastric lavage may be considered if ingestion is recent. Monitor ECG and vital signs.
