Description
Overview of the medicine
Xytrex 5 mg Tablet is an anxiolytic medication used to treat generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. It works by affecting certain chemicals in the brain to reduce feelings of anxiety and fear.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose: 5 mg once daily. May be increased to 10 mg or 20 mg daily, divided into two doses, after 1 week based on response and tolerability. Max dose: 30 mg/day.
Elderly
Initial dose: 2.5 mg once daily. Titrate cautiously to desired effect. Max dose: 15 mg/day.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Xytreline acts as a partial agonist at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors in the brain. This action modulates serotonin neurotransmission, leading to anxiolytic effects without causing significant sedation, muscle relaxation, or cognitive impairment typically associated with benzodiazepines.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Initial anxiolytic effects within 1-2 weeks; full therapeutic effects seen after 4-6 weeks of consistent use.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine (60-70%) and feces (30-40%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 10-14 hours (terminal half-life).
Absorption
Well absorbed orally; bioavailability is about 90%. Peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP3A4.
