Description
Overview of the medicine
Zigrow-B Syrup is a nutritional supplement combining essential B-complex vitamins and Zinc, crucial for various metabolic processes, immune function, and overall growth and development.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 2-3 times daily or as directed by the physician.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, or as advised by a physician based on individual needs.
Renal_impairment
Consult a physician; generally, no dose adjustment is needed for mild to moderate impairment, but caution with severe impairment.
How to Take
Administer orally, preferably with or after meals to minimize gastrointestinal upset, or as directed by a physician.
Mechanism of Action
Zinc is involved in numerous enzymatic reactions, immune function, protein synthesis, and cell division. B-complex vitamins (Thiamine, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Cyanocobalamin) act as coenzymes in carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism, essential for energy production, nerve function, and red blood cell formation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Gradual, as it addresses nutritional deficiencies over time.
Excretion
Water-soluble B vitamins are primarily excreted renally. Unabsorbed zinc is excreted via feces; absorbed zinc is excreted via urine and feces.
Half life
Varies by individual vitamin (B-vitamins are water-soluble with short half-lives, often excreted within hours). Zinc has a biological half-life of 10-14 hours.
Absorption
Readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Zinc absorption can be affected by food components.
Metabolism
B vitamins are largely metabolized to active coenzyme forms. Zinc is absorbed and transported via various mechanisms, participating in enzymatic reactions.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to any component of Zigrow-B syrup.
- •Severe renal impairment without medical consultation.
Drug Interactions
Penicillamine
Zinc may reduce the absorption of penicillamine.
Diuretics (e.g., Thiazides)
May increase the excretion of certain B vitamins and zinc, potentially leading to deficiency.
Iron and Calcium Supplements
High doses of iron or calcium can interfere with zinc absorption. Take supplements separately.
Tetracycline and Quinolone Antibiotics
Zinc can chelate these antibiotics, reducing their absorption. Administer Zinc at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after these antibiotics.
Storage
Store in a cool and dry place, below 30°C, protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose of water-soluble B vitamins is rare as excess is readily excreted. Acute zinc overdose can cause gastrointestinal irritation (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain) and, rarely, drowsiness or lethargy. Management is symptomatic and supportive; induced emesis or gastric lavage may be considered in severe cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe at recommended daily allowances. However, pregnant or lactating women should consult a physician before using this supplement.
