Description
Overview of the medicine
Zolaren-1 Suspension is an oral liquid medication containing Zolarenic Acid, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used for the relief of mild to moderate pain, fever, and inflammation, particularly in children.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Children
For fever and pain: 5-10 mg/kg body weight, every 6-8 hours as needed, not exceeding 4 doses in 24 hours. Max daily dose 40 mg/kg.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be required based on creatinine clearance. Not recommended for severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Administer orally. Shake the bottle well before each use. Use the provided measuring device (syringe or spoon) for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Zolarenic Acid inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by reversibly blocking cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes. Prostaglandins are key mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesia/antipyresis.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as metabolites, with a small portion excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, peak plasma concentrations typically reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by oxidation and conjugation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Zolarenic Acid or other NSAIDs
- Active peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Severe heart failure
- Third trimester of pregnancy
Drug Interactions
Diuretics
May reduce the natriuretic effect of diuretics and increase risk of nephrotoxicity.
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding.
ACE inhibitors/ARBs
May reduce antihypertensive effect and increase risk of renal impairment.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep tightly closed.
Overdose
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, dizziness. In severe cases, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute renal failure, and CNS depression may occur. Management involves symptomatic and supportive care, gastric lavage or activated charcoal within one hour of ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use should be avoided in the third trimester of pregnancy due to risk of premature closure of ductus arteriosus. In early pregnancy and lactation, use only if clearly necessary and potential benefits outweigh risks. Consult a doctor.
