Description
Overview of the medicine
Alice-05 Lotion is a topical corticosteroid formulation containing Mometasone Furoate 0.05% w/w. It is used to relieve inflammation and itching associated with various skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin areas once daily. Rub in gently and completely.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustments are required. Use with caution due to potential for thinner skin and increased systemic absorption.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustments are required for renal impairment as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area once daily. Do not use on the face, groin, or axillae, or for diaper dermatitis unless directed by a physician. Avoid contact with eyes.
Mechanism of Action
Mometasone Furoate is a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. It induces phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, lipocortins, which control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor, arachidonic acid.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief of symptoms typically within a few days of starting treatment.
Excretion
Metabolites primarily excreted in urine and feces.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption; for absorbed portion, it's typically metabolized rapidly.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption may increase with occlusion, prolonged use, or application to large surface areas or broken skin. Approximately 0.7% of the applied dose is absorbed systemically when applied to intact skin without occlusion.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Mometasone Furoate or any component of the formulation.
- Viral (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox), bacterial, or fungal skin infections, unless treated concurrently with appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
- Acne vulgaris, rosacea, perioral dermatitis.
Drug Interactions
No significant systemic drug interactions are reported with topical Mometasone Furoate due to minimal systemic absorption.
However, concurrent use of other topical corticosteroids should be avoided without medical advice to prevent additive systemic effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose with topical corticosteroids is unlikely. In case of chronic overdose or misuse, symptoms of hypercorticism (e.g., Cushing's syndrome) may occur. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; gradual withdrawal may be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Consult a doctor. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman, as it is not known whether topical corticosteroids are excreted in human milk.
