Description
Overview of the medicine
Amboten 6 mg Pediatric Drop is used to relieve symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, and itching in children. It also helps in relieving symptoms of chronic urticaria (hives) in pediatric patients.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Not indicated for adults (pediatric formulation).
Elderly
Not indicated for elderly (pediatric formulation).
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is recommended for pediatric patients with renal impairment. Consult a physician for specific guidance.
How to Take
Administer orally using the provided calibrated dropper, with or without food. Ensure accurate measurement of the prescribed dose.
Mechanism of Action
Levocetirizine, the active ingredient, is a potent and selective antagonist of peripheral H1-receptors. It blocks the action of histamine, a natural substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action typically occurs within 1 hour.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine (approximately 85.4% of the dose). Fecal excretion accounts for about 12.9%.
Half life
Mean plasma half-life is approximately 7-10 hours in children.
Absorption
Rapidly and extensively absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1 hour.
Metabolism
Less than 14% of the dose is metabolized, primarily by aromatic oxidation, N-dealkylation, O-dealkylation, and taurine conjugation. Metabolites are pharmacologically inactive.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or any other piperazine derivatives, or to any of the excipients.
- Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10 mL/min).
- Breast-feeding women (relative contraindication for general use, though this is a pediatric formulation).
Drug Interactions
Ritonavir
May increase plasma concentrations of levocetirizine, potentially leading to increased adverse effects. Dose adjustment may be necessary.
CNS Depressants and Alcohol
Concurrent use may cause additive central nervous system (CNS) depression, leading to increased drowsiness or impaired psychomotor performance.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness in adults and, in children, initial agitation and restlessness followed by drowsiness. Treatment should be symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal if recently ingested.
Pregnancy & Lactation
This product is a pediatric formulation and is not indicated for use in pregnant or lactating women. For general information, levocetirizine is classified as pregnancy category B. It is excreted in human milk.
