Overview of the medicine
Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent used to thin and loosen mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up. It is often prescribed for acute and chronic respiratory conditions associated with increased production of viscous mucus.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Not for adult use (pediatric drop).
Elderly
Not for elderly use (pediatric drop).
Renal_impairment
Use with caution in severe renal impairment. Dose adjustment may be necessary in severe cases.
How to Take
Administer orally. Can be mixed with water or other beverages. Administer after meals. Use the provided calibrated dropper for accurate measurement.
Mechanism of Action
Ambroxol enhances mucociliary clearance by decreasing the viscosity of sputum and increasing the production of pulmonary surfactant. It depolymerizes mucopolysaccharides and stimulates serous glands.

Mainly renal (about 90%), mostly as metabolites.

Approximately 7-12 hours (terminal half-life).
Absorption

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or other components of the formulation.
- •Gastric and duodenal ulcers (relative contraindication).
Drug Interactions
Antibiotics
Ambroxol may increase the penetration of some antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, doxycycline) into bronchial secretions.
Antitussives
Avoid co-administration with antitussives as it may lead to accumulation of secretions due to inhibited cough reflex.
Storage
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dyspepsia. Management involves symptomatic treatment and discontinuation of the drug.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not applicable for pediatric drops. For general Ambroxol: Consult a doctor. Generally not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy. Small amounts may be excreted in breast milk.
