Amotid-CL 125 mg Suspension is an antibiotic medication containing Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium, used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Generally not prescribed for adults in this specific strength and formulation; adult formulations are typically higher strength tablets or capsules.
Elderly
Dosage should be adjusted based on renal function and overall health status. Consult a physician.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance >30 mL/min, no dose adjustment. For 10-30 mL/min, 125 mg (amoxicillin) every 12 hours. For <10 mL/min, 125 mg (amoxicillin) every 24 hours.
How to Take
Shake well before use. Administer orally with food to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Use a measuring spoon/cup provided.
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacterial enzymes from inactivating amoxicillin, thus extending its antibacterial spectrum.

Peak plasma concentration within 1-2 hours.
Excretion
Primarily renal (urine).
Half life
Amoxicillin: 1.3 hours; Clavulanate: 1 hour.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, food can reduce absorption of clavulanate but not amoxicillin.
Metabolism
Amoxicillin is partially metabolized; Clavulanate is extensively metabolized.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •History of hypersensitivity to penicillin or clavulanate
- •History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with amoxicillin/clavulanate
- •Infectious mononucleosis
Drug Interactions
