Overview of the medicine
Amzith 250 mg Capsule contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, skin, and genitourinary system.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250-500 mg once daily for 3-5 days, depending on the infection. For uncomplicated chlamydia: 1 g as a single dose.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment needed unless severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably one hour before or two hours after meals. Can be taken with food to minimize gastrointestinal upset.
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing the translocation of peptides. This leads to a bacteriostatic effect against susceptible organisms.

Increased digoxin levels.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect.
Nelfinavir
Increased azithromycin concentration.
Antacids (containing aluminum or magnesium)
Decreased azithromycin absorption.

Symptoms may include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and reversible hearing loss. Management involves symptomatic and supportive measures. Gastric lavage and general supportive measures may be indicated.
