Overview of the medicine
Anaroxyl 5 mg Injection contains a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for rapid relief of acute pain and inflammation. It acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg intramuscularly or intravenously, administered once daily. In severe cases, 5 mg every 12 hours for a maximum of 2 days.
Elderly
Initial dose of 5 mg once daily, monitor for adverse effects. Dose adjustment may be necessary.
Renal_impairment
Reduce dose to 2.5 mg once daily for moderate impairment. Not recommended for severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Anaroxyl 5 mg Injection should be administered slowly over at least 15 seconds intramuscularly (deep into the gluteal muscle) or intravenously (over 1 minute into a vein).
Mechanism of Action
Anaroxyl inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are key mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever.

Analgesic effect typically observed within 30 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted mainly via urine (60%) and feces (40%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed after intramuscular administration. Peak plasma concentrations reached within 15-30 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications

- •Patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Drug Interactions
Lithium
Increased plasma lithium levels.
Warfarin
Increased risk of bleeding.
Methotrexate
Increased methotrexate toxicity.
Other NSAIDs or corticosteroids
Increased risk of gastrointestinal adverse effects.
ACE inhibitors, Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs), Diuretics
May reduce their antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of renal impairment.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy, dizziness, tinnitus. Severe overdose can lead to acute renal failure, hepatic dysfunction, respiratory depression, and coma. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; there is no specific antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid during the third trimester of pregnancy due to potential fetal harm (premature closure of ductus arteriosus). Use with caution in earlier trimesters only if potential benefit outweighs risk. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it may be excreted in breast milk.
