Description
Overview of the medicine
Apidone 5 mg Suspension is an antihistamine medication primarily used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching. It works by blocking histamine, a natural substance that the body produces during an allergic reaction.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg (10 mL) once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients with normal renal function.
Renal_impairment
For patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <50 mL/min), the dose should be reduced to 5 mg (10 mL) every other day or as directed by physician.
How to Take
Apidone suspension is for oral administration only. It can be taken with or without food. Shake the bottle well before each use. Use the provided measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Apidone acts as a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It competitively binds to and blocks peripheral histamine H1 receptors, thereby preventing the actions of histamine, such as vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, itching, and bronchoconstriction. This results in the reduction of allergic symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged via urine and feces.
Half life
Approximately 12-15 hours.

Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract following oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are typically reached within 1-2 hours.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, tachycardia, headache, and dizziness. In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. There is no specific antidote.
