Description
Overview of the medicine
Ardance-L 10 mg Tablet contains Levosulpiride, a prokinetic agent used to treat symptoms of functional dyspepsia such as bloating, early satiety, epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting. It works by increasing gastrointestinal motility.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 10-20 mg two to three times daily before meals, or as directed by physician.
Elderly
Lower doses may be considered due to potential reduced renal function. Max 25 mg twice daily.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction is required. For moderate impairment, 50% of the usual dose. For severe impairment, not recommended or significantly reduced.
How to Take
Take the tablet orally, preferably 15-30 minutes before meals. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Levosulpiride acts as a selective dopamine D2 receptor antagonist, primarily in the peripheral nervous system (gastrointestinal tract). By blocking D2 receptors, it increases acetylcholine release, which enhances gastrointestinal motility and tone, leading to improved gastric emptying and reduced reflux.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes for prokinetic effects.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine, a small amount in feces.
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 2-3 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to various inactive metabolites.
