Description
Overview of the medicine
Asitrol 5 mg syrup contains Mosapride, a prokinetic agent used to treat symptoms of functional dyspepsia and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by increasing gastrointestinal motility.
Uses & Indications

5 mg (10 ml syrup) three times daily before or after meals.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is usually required, but caution should be exercised. Start with a lower dose if necessary.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage reduction may be necessary in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Oral administration. Take 10 ml of syrup three times daily, before or after meals, as directed by a physician.
Mechanism of Action
Mosapride is a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist that enhances acetylcholine release from enteric neurons. This leads to increased upper gastrointestinal motility, including gastric emptying and small bowel transit.

Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine and feces as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 1.5-2 hours (active metabolite: 6-7 hours).
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Bioavailability is approximately 40-50% due to first-pass metabolism.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) into an active des-4-fluorobenzyl derivative.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to mosapride or any component of the formulation.
- •Patients with gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation.
Drug Interactions
Grapefruit juice
May increase mosapride plasma concentrations.
Anticholinergic drugs
May reduce the effect of mosapride.
Azole antifungals (e.g., Ketoconazole)
May increase mosapride plasma concentrations due to CYP3A4 inhibition.
Macrolide antibiotics (e.g., Erythromycin)
May increase mosapride plasma concentrations due to CYP3A4 inhibition.
Storage
Store in a cool and dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose are not well-established. Gastric lavage and symptomatic supportive treatment are recommended.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown whether mosapride is excreted in human milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
