Description
Overview of the medicine
Attentin 10 mg capsule contains Dexamfetamine sulfate, a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant primarily used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It helps increase attention and decrease hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For ADHD, typically 5-40 mg daily in divided doses. Initial dose usually 5 mg once or twice daily. For narcolepsy, 5-60 mg daily in divided doses.
Elderly
Lower initial doses are recommended, with careful titration due to increased sensitivity and potential comorbidities. Use with caution.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment is required; use with caution. Monitoring for adverse effects is important as excretion may be impaired.
How to Take
Take orally, with or without food. Avoid taking late in the day to prevent insomnia.
Mechanism of Action
Dexamfetamine works by increasing the levels of certain neurotransmitters, primarily dopamine and norepinephrine, in the brain. This action improves attention, focus, and reduces impulsive behavior and hyperactivity in individuals with ADHD.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Typically 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted renally, with the rate and extent dependent on urine pH (more acidic urine increases excretion).
Half life
Approximately 10-12 hours in adults, varying with urine pH.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by the CYP2D6 enzyme, producing inactive metabolites.

Acidifying agents (e.g., ascorbic acid)
Decrease urinary excretion and shorten half-life.
Alkalinizing agents (e.g., sodium bicarbonate)
Increase urinary excretion and prolong half-life.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature (20°C to 25°C), away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
