Description
Overview of the medicine
Bevixa 100 mg Injection is an anti-cancer medication used to treat various types of cancer by inhibiting the growth of new blood vessels that feed tumors.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 5 mg/kg, 7.5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, or 15 mg/kg given intravenously every 2 or 3 weeks, depending on the specific cancer type and treatment regimen.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required based on age, but close monitoring for adverse effects is recommended.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required; use with caution.
How to Take
Intravenous infusion over 30-90 minutes, usually administered by a healthcare professional.
Mechanism of Action
Bevacizumab selectively binds to and neutralizes Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), preventing its interaction with receptors on endothelial cells. This inhibits angiogenesis, thereby starving tumors of their blood supply and limiting their growth and metastasis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid, with anti-angiogenic effects observable within hours to days.
Excretion
Not specifically renally or hepatically excreted in an unchanged form; degradation products are excreted via normal physiological pathways.
Half life
Approximately 17 to 21 days (range 11-50 days).
Absorption
Administered intravenously, hence 100% bioavailability.
Metabolism
Primarily catabolized by proteolytic degradation throughout the body, similar to endogenous IgG; not metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
