Overview of the medicine
Bilasi 20 mg Tablet contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production. It treats conditions like GERD, ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
GERD: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Erosive esophagitis: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. H. pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily with antibiotics.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. For severe impairment, caution is advised.
How to Take
Take the tablet whole with a glass of water, at least one hour before a meal. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole specifically inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cells, thereby blocking the final step of acid production.

Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability is approximately 64% for 20 mg dose.

Extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme system, particularly CYP2C19 and CYP3A4.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or any components of the formulation
- •Concomitant use with nelfinavir
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Increased INR/prothrombin time; monitor closely.
Clopidogrel
Reduced antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel due to CYP2C19 inhibition.
Ketoconazole, Itraconazole
Reduced absorption of drugs requiring acidic gastric pH for absorption.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and headache. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed after consulting a doctor. Avoid during breastfeeding.
