Description
Overview of the medicine
Boncare is a combination supplement containing Calcium Carbonate derived from coral and Vitamin D3. It is used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, and to support bone health.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 1-2 tablets daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adults, but may require closer monitoring.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution and monitor calcium levels; dosage adjustment may be needed depending on severity.
How to Take
Orally, preferably with meals to enhance absorption. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Calcium is essential for bone formation and maintenance, nerve transmission, muscle contraction, and many cellular functions. Vitamin D3 helps in the absorption of calcium from the gut and its deposition in bones.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Long-term effect, not immediate.
Excretion
Calcium is excreted via urine and feces. Vitamin D3 metabolites are excreted mainly in bile and feces.
Half life
Calcium is regulated by hormones; Vitamin D3 half-life is about 15-20 days.
Absorption
Calcium absorption is about 20-30% from the small intestine, enhanced by Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is absorbed from the small intestine.
Metabolism
Calcium is primarily absorbed and utilized. Vitamin D3 is metabolized in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D (calcifediol) and then in the kidneys to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol), the active form.
