Overview of the medicine
Bredox 200 mg Tablet contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
200 mg orally every 12 hours for 5-10 days, depending on the infection.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but dose adjustment may be necessary for elderly patients with impaired renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required based on creatinine clearance. For CrCl < 30 mL/min, the dose interval should be extended to 24 hours.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably with food to enhance absorption and minimize gastrointestinal upset.
Mechanism of Action
Cefpodoxime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Onset
Peak plasma concentrations are reached within approximately 1 hour.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine, via renal filtration and tubular secretion.

Approximately 2-3 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, absorption is enhanced by food.
Metabolism
Cefpodoxime proxetil is an inactive prodrug that is de-esterified to the active metabolite cefpodoxime in the gastrointestinal tract.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin.
- •History of severe hypersensitivity reaction to any beta-lactam antibiotic.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
May increase plasma concentrations of cefpodoxime by reducing its renal excretion.
Oral Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Concomitant use may enhance the anticoagulant effect, requiring closer monitoring of INR.
Antacids/H2 Receptor Antagonists/Proton Pump Inhibitors
May decrease the absorption of cefpodoxime, reducing its efficacy. Administer at least 2 hours apart.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive measures should be taken. Hemodialysis may be useful in accelerating its elimination from the body.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in low concentrations in breast milk, use with caution in nursing mothers.
