Overview of the medicine
Bukof-D Syrup is a combination medication used to relieve symptoms of common cold, flu, and allergies such as dry cough, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing. It contains an antitussive, a decongestant, and an antihistamine to provide comprehensive relief.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 3-4 times daily.
Elderly
Start with lower dose; 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 2-3 times daily or as directed by physician.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution, dose adjustment may be necessary. Consult a physician.
How to Take
Bukof-D Syrup is for oral administration. Use a measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing. Can be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Dextromethorphan acts on the cough center in the brain to suppress cough. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that narrows blood vessels in the nasal passages to reduce swelling and congestion. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that blocks histamine, reducing allergic symptoms like runny nose and sneezing.

Half life
Dextromethorphan: ~2-4 hours, Phenylephrine: ~2-3 hours, Chlorpheniramine: ~12-24 hours.
Absorption
Dextromethorphan, Phenylephrine, and Chlorpheniramine are well absorbed orally. Dextromethorphan undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism. Phenylephrine has variable oral bioavailability. Chlorpheniramine is readily absorbed.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism for all three components, mainly via CYP2D6 for dextromethorphan.
Side Effects
Contraindications

- •Severe coronary artery disease
- •Infants less than 2 years of age
Drug Interactions
Beta-blockers
Risk of increased blood pressure with phenylephrine.
MAO Inhibitors
Risk of hypertensive crisis and serotonin syndrome.
Tricyclic Antidepressants
Potentiation of cardiovascular effects of phenylephrine.
CNS Depressants (alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers)
Increased sedative effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, hallucinations, or seizures. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the benefit outweighs the potential risk (Pregnancy Category C). Consult a doctor before use during lactation as components may pass into breast milk.
