Overview of the medicine
Butapan 20 mg Tablet contains Butamirate Citrate, a non-opioid antitussive agent used for the symptomatic treatment of coughs of various etiologies. It helps to reduce the frequency and intensity of cough by acting directly on the cough center.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
20 mg (1 tablet) three times daily. Max 80 mg/day.
Elderly
Same as adults, but caution for renal/hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required, but use with caution.
How to Take
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably before meals. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Butamirate Citrate is a central cough suppressant that acts directly on the cough center in the medulla oblongata, without depressing the respiratory center. It also has bronchodilatory and anti-inflammatory effects.
