Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action

Within 30 minutes.
Excretion
Primarily via the kidneys, mainly as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 4 hours (for Butamirate and its active metabolites).

Metabolism
Hydrolyzed in the plasma to 2-phenylbutyric acid and diethylaminoethoxyethanol, which are both active.

- Patients with productive cough where cough suppression might be detrimental (e.g., asthma, COPD with significant mucus production).
- Children under 6 years (for tablet form).
Drug Interactions
Expectorants
Avoid concomitant use with expectorants, as cough suppression can lead to accumulation of bronchial secretions, increasing the risk of bronchospasm and respiratory infections.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and hypotension. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and monitoring vital signs.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if clearly needed and potential benefits outweigh risks. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is unknown if it is excreted in breast milk. Consult a doctor.
