Overview of the medicine
CardoPlus is a combination medication containing Rosuvastatin and Aspirin, used to lower cholesterol and prevent blood clot formation, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One tablet (e.g., Rosuvastatin 10 mg + Aspirin 75 mg) orally once daily, preferably in the evening.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment for elderly, but caution is advised due to increased risk of side effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment (especially for Rosuvastatin).
How to Take
Orally, with or without food. Swallow whole, do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis. Aspirin inhibits platelet aggregation by irreversibly acetylating cyclooxygenase-1.

Rosuvastatin: lipid-lowering effects within 1 week. Aspirin: antiplatelet effects within hours.
Excretion
Rosuvastatin: primarily feces. Aspirin: salicylic acid primarily urine.

Rosuvastatin: ~19 hours. Aspirin: ~2-3 hours (for antiplatelet effect, salicylic acid half-life is longer).

Rosuvastatin: ~20% oral bioavailability. Aspirin: rapidly absorbed.
Metabolism
Rosuvastatin: limited metabolism, primarily CYP2C9. Aspirin: rapidly hydrolyzed to salicylic acid.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Active liver disease, severe renal impairment, active bleeding (e.g., peptic ulcer), known hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin, aspirin or other NSAIDs, severe heart failure.
- •Children under 16 (risk of Reye's syndrome with Aspirin)
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs
Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding with Aspirin.
Antacids
May reduce Rosuvastatin absorption.
Warfarin
Increased risk of bleeding.
Clopidogrel
Increased antiplatelet effect.
Cyclosporine
Increased Rosuvastatin levels.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include gastrointestinal irritation, hyperventilation, tinnitus (Aspirin), myopathy (Rosuvastatin). Management is supportive, including gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and symptomatic treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation due to Aspirin (especially in third trimester) and Rosuvastatin.
