Description
Overview of the medicine
Cavapro-300-mg-tablet is a medication used to reduce cardiovascular risk by improving endothelial function and reducing oxidative stress. It is primarily prescribed for patients with dyslipidemia and those at high risk of atherosclerosis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
300 mg once daily, preferably with evening meal. Dosage may be adjusted based on response and tolerability.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required for elderly patients with normal renal and hepatic function. Close monitoring is advised.
Renal_impairment
For moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-60 mL/min), consider reducing dose to 150 mg once daily. Not recommended for severe impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take the tablet orally, with a glass of water, once daily. It can be taken with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Cavapro-300-mg-tablet works by selectively targeting and protecting vascular endothelial cells from oxidative damage. It enhances nitric oxide bioavailability, leading to improved vasodilation and reduced inflammation, thereby preventing plaque formation and progression of atherosclerosis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Initial effects observed within 1 week; full therapeutic effect typically within 4-6 weeks.
Excretion
Mainly excreted through urine (60%) and feces (35%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 12-15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via CYP3A4 pathway.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to CardioProphylin or any component of the tablet.
- Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases.
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min).
- Pregnancy and lactation.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Close monitoring of INR is recommended as CardioProphylin may potentiate the anticoagulant effect.
Gemfibrozil and other fibrates
Concomitant use may increase the risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis. Use with caution.
CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin)
May increase plasma concentrations of CardioProphylin, increasing risk of adverse effects. Dose adjustment may be necessary.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, initiate symptomatic and supportive measures. There is no specific antidote. Monitor liver function and kidney function closely.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Cavapro-300-mg-tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during treatment.
