Overview of the medicine
Cemix-3 200 mg capsule contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily, depending on the severity of infection. Duration usually 7-14 days.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary unless severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment required for creatinine clearance < 60 mL/min.
How to Take
May be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Primarily excreted by the kidneys (approximately 50% of absorbed dose).

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Increased prothrombin time (PT) and INR, increased risk of bleeding.
Probenecid
Increases cefixime plasma levels.
Oral contraceptives

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Gastric lavage may be indicated. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis does not remove significant amounts of cefixime from the body.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use with caution during pregnancy if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; use with caution during lactation.
