Cipronor 250 mg Suspension is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typical adult dosage is 250 mg to 750 mg twice daily. For 250 mg/5 mL suspension, this means 5 mL to 15 mL twice daily depending on the infection.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but caution is advised with renal impairment. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required based on creatinine clearance. For CrCl 30-60 mL/min, 250-500 mg every 12 hours. For CrCl < 30 mL/min, 250-500 mg every 18-24 hours.
How to Take
Shake well before use. Take orally with or without food, but avoid dairy products and antacids within 2 hours of dose. Measure dose accurately using a measuring spoon or cup.
Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Primarily excreted unchanged in urine (50-70%) and feces (15-30%).

Approximately 3-5 hours.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.
- Concomitant use with tizanidine.
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs
May increase risk of CNS stimulation and convulsions.
Warfarin
May increase anticoagulant effect, monitor INR.
Tizanidine
Concomitant use increases tizanidine plasma concentration, leading to hypotension and sedation. Contraindicated.
Theophylline
Increases theophylline levels, risk of toxicity. Monitor levels.
Antacids, Iron, Zinc, Sucralfate, Didanosine
Reduce ciprofloxacin absorption. Take ciprofloxacin 2 hours before or 6 hours after these agents.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not freeze. Reconstituted suspension should be refrigerated and discarded after 14 days.

Overdose symptoms may include dizziness, tremor, headache, fatigue, seizures, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and impaired renal function. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric emptying and activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is excreted in breast milk and may cause joint problems in infants.
