Prophylaxis of iron deficiency during pregnancy, lactation, periods of rapid growth, and in adults with increased iron requirements

Dosage

Adults

For iron deficiency anemia: 5-10 ml (50-100 mg elemental iron) once or twice daily, or as directed by the physician. For latent iron deficiency: 2.5-5 ml (25-50 mg elemental iron) daily.

Elderly

Similar to adult dosage. Caution should be exercised in elderly patients with existing comorbidities or on multiple medications.

Renal_impairment

No specific dosage adjustment is typically required, but monitoring of iron status is advisable.

How to Take

Take orally, preferably with or after meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Use the measuring cup or spoon provided.

Symptoms of acute iron overdose include severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and in severe cases, metabolic acidosis, shock, and organ damage. In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Treatment may involve gastric lavage, supportive care, and chelation therapy (e.g., deferoxamine).
