Description
Overview of the medicine
Congenil 0.025% Nasal Drop contains Xylometazoline Hydrochloride, a sympathomimetic agent that provides rapid and prolonged relief from nasal congestion. It works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing swelling and opening the airways. This strength is typically suitable for children.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
This 0.025% strength is primarily for pediatric use (children 2-12 years). For adults, typically 0.05% or 0.1% solutions are used. Children 2-12 years: 1-2 drops into each nostril 1-2 times daily, not exceeding 3 days.
Elderly
Use with caution; consult a physician. No specific dosage recommendations for 0.025% strength in elderly; adult strengths would be prescribed if appropriate.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for topical nasal application due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For nasal use only. Blow nose gently before use. Tilt head back, apply drops into each nostril, and keep head tilted for a short while. Do not use for more than 3-5 consecutive days to avoid rebound congestion.
Mechanism of Action
Xylometazoline is an alpha-adrenergic agonist. It acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the nasal mucosa, causing vasoconstriction. This reduces blood flow to the area, decreases swelling and congestion, thereby improving airflow.
