Take orally with water, preferably on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) for optimal absorption. May be taken with food to reduce gastrointestinal upset.

Phenoxymethylpenicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

• •Severe allergic reactions to other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., cephalosporins) due to potential cross-reactivity.

Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rarely neurotoxicity (e.g., seizures) particularly in patients with severe renal impairment. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic; hemodialysis may be effective in severe cases.

Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown a risk to the fetus, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is excreted into breast milk in small amounts; generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but monitor for rash or diarrhea in the infant.
