Description
Overview of the medicine
Delpino 5 mg Tablet is an anxiolytic medication used for the short-term treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder. It works by enhancing the effects of a natural chemical in the body (GABA), which calms brain activity.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 5 mg once daily, preferably at bedtime. May be increased to 10 mg daily in divided doses based on response and tolerability. Max: 15 mg/day.
Elderly
Initial dose 2.5 mg once daily, preferably at bedtime. Carefully titrate upwards. Max: 5 mg/day.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment required for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment; consider lower doses.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Delpino selectively modulates GABA-A receptors, primarily enhancing the inhibitory effects of GABA. This leads to a reduction in neuronal excitability, resulting in anxiolytic, sedative, and muscle relaxant properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as metabolites; small amount excreted in feces.
Half life
10-15 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via CYP450 enzymes, leading to active and inactive metabolites.

- •Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
- •Severe respiratory insufficiency
- •Severe hepatic impairment
- •Myasthenia gravis

Opioids
Increased risk of profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death. Avoid concomitant use or reduce dosage of both drugs.
Antacids
May delay absorption but not significantly alter total absorption.
Antifungals (e.g., Ketoconazole)
May increase Delpino plasma concentrations due to CYP450 inhibition, requiring dose adjustment.
Alcohol and other CNS depressants
Potentiates sedative effects, leading to increased drowsiness and impaired psychomotor function.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include somnolence, confusion, impaired coordination, diminished reflexes, and coma. Management involves supportive care, maintaining airway, and monitoring vital signs. Flumazenil may be considered in severe cases.
